composer/violinist

Biography

Djuro Zivkovic (or Đuro Živković or Ђуро Живковић, born 1975 in Belgrade, Serbia) comes from a non-musician family, but his parents inspired his love for the art: father who adored painting art and folklore music, and mother who was a ballerina in her youth. When he entered the primary music school in Zagreb by wish of his father, he suddenly began to listen Bach’s and Vivaldi’s music almost hypnotically, leaving all kind of “pop” music behind him – and decided to be a real musician: violinist and composer – as like Vivaldi was. The idea for composing arose very soon together with his violin playing. After the first lessons in violin he got a strong wish to play more interesting music than daily etudes. But since the music scores had not been available for him so easily, he decided to write his own violin sonatas, duos, and concertos grosso – all in baroque style. During years he discovered more and more different music and composers, who have opened the door of the contemporary music world. His early interest for folklore and Eastern Church music has developed composition technique such as polyrhythmic, improvisation, special harmony based scales, micro polyphony and heterophony.

Djuro Zivkovic is a professional composer and violinist who currently works and lives in Sweden. His music is performed, recorded and broadcasted across Europe and Canada, by the leading European musicians. His music holds the Grammy Award 2010 (Grammis) with Sonanza Ensemble. His scores are available at mic.se.
